My name is Nicole and I live in the Uintah mountains west of Heber City, Utah. Our home is at an elevation 7500 feet. This creates a challenge as a cook and baker. I live with my husband Doug (aka Scruffdog) and an ever evolving house full of critters.
My day job as a technical writer for a software company keeps me busy. Doug is a technical writer too, but cooking and music is so much more fun! Living where we do, a trip to the market takes at least an hour, so I am constantly challenged to create a dish with ingredients on hand.
My special passion is baking - whole grain and naturally leavened loaves inspired by the recipes of Peter Reinhart. Doug is an excellent cook, in addition to being our resident musician. Check out Dog's Musical Musings - he has some great new recordings up.

Augie - 2009
Our fine old hound girl Miss August, Augustina, our Augie-doggie, left us this September at the age of 14. She was a powerful persona in our home, a faithful, loving, girl, and a endearingly demanding, enthusiastic, driving, presence. We love you Augie. We miss you. Our lives are richer for the years we shared with you.
Moose - 2010
Our Moose was a funny and sweet little boy. Abandoned with Maggie in the Uintah mountains as a tiny kitten, he was plucked from almost certain death by my sister Rachelle. Moose loved to be outside, and we always feared for him - he was such a rambunctious, fearless, but naive soul. We don't know what happened. The forest took him back one day. We miss you little guy. We wish you had stayed with us longer.
